bojojoti posted this in her hournal, and it looked like fun. My list is chock-full of some of my favorite actors. Narrowing down the scores of timeless films has been a job! Bojojoti inserted pictures, but it's more of a hassle than I care to undertake today.

Leave a comment and I'll give you 10 actors and 10 actresses (or 5 and 5, if you prefer) and on your own journal, post the movies you enjoy most with those actors (or not - no pressure). It's a fun way to remember movies you haven't thought of in awhile!



SUSAN SARANDON: I've liked this actor in every movie I've seen of hers. She can be funny or serious or snooty or serene or fiery. I really liked her in Lorenzo's Oil and Bull Durham<, but I think my favorite is The Client. Maybe because it's based on a John Grisham novel - a Mississippi boy. ;)

HELEN MIRREN: A FABULOUS actor! Her range is phenomenal and her timing absolutely perfect. My favorite performances have been via BBC, though, in her role as DCI Jane Tennyson in the Prime Suspect series.

NATALIE WOOD: An unfortunate soul whose life ended in tragedy. She's not one of my favorites as an adult performer (with the exception of her portrayal of Judy in Rebel Without a Cause and Deanie in Splendor in the Grass), but she was BRILLIANT as a child actor. My favorite? Miracle on 34th Street!

KATHARINE HEPBURN: How does one choose a favorite??? Bringing Up Baby...The Philadelphia Story...Woman of the Year...Guess Whose Coming to Dinner...The African Queen...Rooster Cogburn...On Golden Pond? If I HAVE to choose, I think it will be...The Lion in Winter.

BARBARA STANWYCK: Although probably best known for her television series to many, this woman could ACT! She was extremely confident in every role and gave great performances that delighted audiences and gave them their money's worth every time. I LOVE her in Double Indemnity!

SALLY FIELD: Well, who doesn't love the forever young "Flying Nun"? Even with the small lapse in good judgment during her Burt Reynolds phase, Field has portrayed powerful women who survive and/or delight. From Gidget to Sybil to Norma Rae, she never fails to deliver. As a Southern woman who has lost a child to an incurable disease, I can relate to her character in Steel Magnolias - not necessarily the person M'Lynn, but the emotion Field captured.

DORIS DAY: Oh, my! How do I choose? All those romantic comedies and musicals...but I think Midnight Lace is at the top of my list.

BETTE DAVIS: Despite her horrific gaffes in later life, this woman was a true gem. So many of her performances are etched in our minds - Regina in The Little Foxes, Lily Moffat in The Corn is Green, Queen Elizabeth I in The Virgin Queen, even Charlotte in Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte. I guess All About Eve is as close as I'll get to choosing a favorite.

MYRNA LOY: This is also a toughie. I really like her in Cheaper By the Dozen and Meet Me In St. Louis, but her Nora to William Powell's Nick wins hands down. LOVE The Thin Man series!

NICOLE KIDMAN: I really haven't seen that many of her movies, but I LOVED her in Cold Mountain!

JIMMY STEWART: Oh, so many to choose from! One of my faves is Shennandoah. But I really think he is outstanding in Rear Window. I just didn't think Grace Kelly fit her part.

PIERCE BROSNAN: Once Sean Connery gave up the role of Bond, James Bond, I lost interest in Ian Flemming's hero so I haven't see Brosnan's portrayal. I like him in Mrs. Doubtfire and Robinson Crusoe and Dante's Inferno, but The Thomas Crowne Affair is my pick.

RICHARD BURTON: Hands down...The Taming of the Shrew...no, wait, Becket...no, wait...The Spy Who Came In From the Cold...no, I was right the first time.

SEAN CONNERY: Well, there's just nothing this man has been in that I didn't like. Seriously. I mean, come on! Okay, okay, sex appeal aside, his James Bond is too good to pass up. Love him in Darby O'Gill and the Little People, Anna Christie, The Molly Maguires, The Great Train Robbery, Finding Forrester and The Presidio. But he'll always be Bond, James Bond.

STEVE MCQUEEN: Oh, dear. Another tragic loss. It's a toss up between Bullit and The Great Escape. I'll go with the latter.

MICHAEL DOUGLAS: This will be another tough one. He's so good at being bad! LOVE the Romancing the Stone movies and even The American President and War of the Roses, but for pure shock, I think Basic Instinct.

CLINT EASTWOOD: I'm showing my age here, but he'll always be Rowdy Yates to me. LOL! Favorite Eastwood movie? Play Misty For Me.

CLARK GABLE: Well, good grief. How easy can this be? As good as he is in Mogambo and The Misfits, he is THE quintessential Southern beau! Gone With the Wind!

WILLIAM POWELL: No question. The Thin Man series!

WARREN BEATTY: I really had a hard time with this actor. I'm not sure I've seen many of his films. I guess I'd have to choose Splendor in the Grass.

That was fun! I'm already on board from Bojojoti, so don't give me any more actors. That would blow my fragile mind, I fear. :-)

By the way, Warren Beatty was delicious in Heaven Can Wait.

I have so enjoyed your answers. You've given me a number of movies I need to put on my to-watch list.

I agree about Sean Connery. I can watch anything he does. His accent makes me laugh, because it doesn't matter what ethnicity he is playing, the accent never waivers!

Barbara Stanwyck could do it all from cute ingenue to cold-blooded killer.

For me, The Philadelphia Story is my favorite Katherine movie. It's simply yar!

I can't think of one female movie star today who has the same star power as Stanwyck and Hepburn.

Honestly, I don't think there are any actors today who can hold a candle to the old ones. Maybe they'll develop over time, but Davis, Hepburn, Stanwyck...they seemed to 'have it' from the get-go.
