deltamiss: (Winter Miss)
We got snow. Not a lot but enough to cover the ground. The sun is beginning to peek and the clouds are scooting away. This won't last long.

Let it snow... )

It means today will be HOT, but at least the sun is shining for the first time in days and days. YAY!

The grass needs mowing. Jeff found a guy just starting out in the yard care/handyman business who will begin next week taking care of the yard. Mowing is just too much for me, and Jeff has no time. The neighbors will be glad, I'm sure. ;)

The vegetable garden has been sort of a disappointment. The okra hasn't done anything much yet; the squash has bloomed, but the blooms keep falling off; the tomatoes vines are huge, but with few tomatoes and they are small. I'm thinking the box isn't deep enough or there's not enough sun on it. And now I've found stink bugs and slug trails. Great.

My housecleaning is coming along. It's been a challenge, to say the least. It's obvious that my true calling in life was to be a queen and tell other people what to do. Part of the problem, too, is reading. Now that there is time, that's all I want to do.

Oh, well. Let me take two empty glasses to the kitchen to wash and get the third pair of shoes out of the living room. *sigh*

'Twas just a garden in the rain
Close to a little leafy lane
A touch of color - 'neath skies of gray

The raindrops kissed the flower beds
The blossoms raised their thirsty heads
A perfumed thank you they seemed to say

Surely here I was charmed beyond compare - to view
Maybe it was just that I was there - with you

'Twas just a garden in the rain
But then the sun came out again
And sent us happily on our way

Lyrics by James Dyrenforth

Another misty, dreary day in Down East North Carolina. Bokeh's paws are webbing, I swear. One can only hope that last line is true.

So in honor of the rain - and the sun that WILL shine again - a slide show of raindrops from my garden. :D Again, if you click on the box in the bottom right corner, you can see these full screen.

Another wild and wet thunderstorm just passed over. Wow! The thunder with this one was so LOUD and the lightening cracked so sharply, I'm surprised we didn't lose power.

Bokeh actually stayed under the deck until his hole filled with water. He came out when the rain abated a little and just stood in the yard. I swear, that dog is strange!

I have a cold. I thought it was allergies from all the dust that got stirred up in my room at school with all the packing, and that may have contributed. If I've sneezed once, I've sneezed a gazillion times since Friday, and now I think it's moving to my chest. :/

My days so far have been quite lazy, and it's just the first 'real' day of summer vacation. What will I be like in August? Yikes!

Back to the couch. I just sneezed another four times. *sigh*

Zoom used...note to self: get a tripod, doofette!

A pretty loud thunderstorm rolled through yesterday afternoon bringing wild rain and wind. It didn't last long, but some limbs were downed from the bigger pecan tree and the flowers got a soaking.

Bokeh has wallowed out a place under the deck where he naps during the hottest part of the day. But, the hole is so deep that it fills with water, and he has to find other accommodations - like his dog house, a room he's not crazy about. He doesn't go in there voluntarily except to eat, chase a bug and get out of the pouring rain.

We have to be careful not to be seen during rain because Bokeh will stand in it thinking we're going to come out to play. Sometimes he just looks pitiful.

Today the sun is shining, though, and he's chasing bugs. :D

Clouds are attempting to empty themselves on us again, but they are not very successful just yet. The yard smells so good. The privet has just about finished blooming, but there is honeysuckle to take its place. Mmmmmm! And the catalpa is blooming. The yard is alive and well. :D

It finally rained...a downpour. We desperately needed it, too. The drive home was horrendous, though. The AC in my car is broken, and with the humidity at 100%, the windows fogged in addition to the massive downpour. I've found that opening the windows a touch - one in front and one in back - helps, but I had to keep wiping the windshield while trying to miss deep side puddles on the highway. Fun times.

Not until I got home did I know I'd driven right through an area where a funnel was spotted. Yikes! I just thought it was a regular old thunderstorm. At least the hail missed me.

Now the sun is trying to break through. :/
deltamiss: (Rainy Day)
We have missed the worst of the weather I think. There was a 70% chance of rain last night, a 70% today and tonight, but the sun is shining and has been off and on all day. We could use the rain, but I don't want the severe thunderstorms that produce hail. I just planted a garden, for goodness sakes! However, my joints are screaming. That usually means rain. :/

Today was actually a nice first day back after a long break. The kids were surprisingly good, but then I didn't give them much room to do anything but work. ;)

Not much doing in Down East North Carolina tonight so I'll leave you with some macros I took this evening. I'm sort of pleased with these.

Bold! )
deltamiss: (Rainy Day)
I usually walk around the yard on Sunday morning, but since it's supposed to rain today and tomorrow, I thought I'd get it in early. Besides, Bokeh was begging for food. ;)

Raindrops on roses... )

Day before yesterday the temperature was 85° the shade.

Yesterday our high was 67°.

Today so far we've hit 45°...and that was at 5:00 A.M. :/

Messy, drizzly, chilly day. Perfect for reading. I think I'll do just that. :D

Y'all have a grand weekend.

The car passed inspection WITHOUT new tires! YESSSSSS!!!!

Okay, it's only 9:30 and the temperature is already 56° in light rain. If a cold front with snow is going to happen, it better get moving. Oh, wait. It IS moving...our way. :/

In honor of the impending frigid weather, I give you an icy ghost...MUAHAHAHAHAHA! Don't you just love the shade of lipstick she's wearing?

deltamiss: (Rainy Day)
I've decided that I want to be a weather person. A computer does all the work, and I'd only have to be right about 25% of the time. :/
deltamiss: (Gardening Miss)
It's only 12:30, and we've already passed the predicted high of 69°! The sun is shining...a breeze is blowing...the air even smells different. Surely winter is almost over.

Look what I found this morning! Is a periwinkle a sure sign spring is coming?

deltamiss: (Spinning Snowflake)
It's snowing, but one has to look veeeeerrrrrry closely to see it. The district has delayed school two hours. I guess it's heavier 35 miles northwest of here.

So here I sit...all dressed up and nowhere to go for two hours. :/
deltamiss: (Brrrr!)
The snow is melting quickly now, but that means the icicles are, too. YIKES! Three just missed me this morning!

The pansies have been pretty much covered since day before yesterday.

And we had a visitor this morning.

deltamiss: (Spinning Snowflake)
Um, okay. So I've only had this camera a month, but I SHOULD have noticed the settings for CLOUDS! DUH! I could have avoided all the 'blue' pictures yesterday. [ profile] heartmart was kind enough to fiddle with some for me, but I've decided to leave the previous post as is as a reminder. ' know...I'll forget. Thanks, Billie!!

Today the sun is out and the temperature is supposed to rise to a balmy 31°. I sort of dread the drive to work in the morning. Let's hope there is no black ice left on the road at 5:00 A.M. :/

Since I discovered the correct setting, I went out early to take some pictures and discovered I'm surrounded by...Sno-Cones and Popsicles )

What a dreary day it has been so far. The sun is making an attempt, albeit a feeble one.

deltamiss: (Photo Miss)
I don't know how I did it, but I was able to retrieve today's photo. Whew!

This morning as I drove to work, the full moon was huge and bright moving through skittering clouds, some as thick as buttermilk. It was a glorious sight, and I wanted desperately to kick myself for not having a camera in the car with me. As I approached Goldsboro, the clouds thickened to the point they completely obliterated the gorgeous orb. I was sick about it. Another missed opportunity.

Around 7:40 a teacher ran into my room and asked if I had taken my photo of the day. She pointed to the sky just outside our classrooms, and I gasped. PERFECT!

I had to do some cropping to get rid of fences and dugouts, and this camera has so few pixels that the picture is not exactly the best quality, but I love it.
