I've been watching the dogwood buds for a couple of weeks now. There is only one tree amongst the overgrown vegetation between us and the neighbors to the south, but it is loaded with buds. I anxiously await the full blooms.

Last week's photo...

This week's...

Wonder what next week's will look like?

We tried to start a Dogwood at the old cottage but it just died. :^(

Daddy tried for years and years to get a dogwood to grow in his yard but never succeeded. :(

Do you have a wooded area near Riverhome? They like shade.

This area was wooded...
Maybe the soil is too sandy?

We have very sandy soil here, but as an undergrowth tree, ours gets lots of decaying leaves. Maybe amending the soil with some compost would help.

It looks like my emerging lilac buds a while back but less purple. Right now my lilac is in full glorious bloom.

I love dogwood trees but they don't seem to exist here. At least I've never seen one.

The Natchez Trace (From Natchez to Nashville) is gorgeous this time of year with wild dogwoods blooming in the woods. I wish I had more.

I suppose your area is too hot in the summer? Hmmm...

I LOVE dogwood! I wish it would grow here. Come to think of it, right now, I would probably be happy to see stink weed... We had 5 inches of snow today. *sigh*

I love dogwoods, and have planted some in my yard. I can't get them to live. :(

I think they are pretty difficult to get established. I love them, too.
