Wow!

One of the plants I like to use in container gardening is the ornamental sweet potato. Last year Peyton planted one, and I planted one.

This afternoon while Melanie and I were chatting in front of my apartment, I began to pull out some of the dead material from the pots. Look what I found...

Peyton's sweet potato vine produced a potato! I've never had this happen before, and mine didn't produce anything except roots. Peyton was so proud. If I'd known it was there last fall, I'd have pulled it up and cooked it for him. LOL!

Isn't it still edible? That's really great!

And... last night for dinner one of the things I had to eat was..... *drumroll*.... FRIED OKRA!

Amazing! I never had a potato grow from my sweet potato vines.

It looks like an alien heart! Pods and alien hearts! What a garden you grow!

if there's no mush, tuck er back in the pot. she's got another growing season to trail thru.

i have one waiting in the cellar but i forgot to water it all winter. it's in dirt so maybe it'll still be good. or not.

That's a big one! Even with soft spots, maybe it would grow? Shows what I know about sweet potatoes.
LOL
You really have the weird garden stuff today.
:D

What a surprise. I'm sure Peyton will look forward to planting another one when it is time to.

Those are some pretty scary pictures until you know what they are. They looked like a heart or something at first. hehe

What did Peyton think of it?

Interesting to see the pictures. We can buy sweet potatoes here in the shop but I don't know if they can grow here.
