I put a birdfeeder outside my bedroom window. It's not exactly the right time of year, but the birds need to get used to the feeder in its new spot. Now I've decided I want to fill the small tree with feeders. ;) I'm having to take the picture through the window. Not ideal, but the best I can do.

I've been watching a pair of cardinals but can't seem to get a picture of them. Every morning and several times a day I hear the male calling his female to the feeder. There's even a very young cardinal with them that Dad fed this morning. The male would go to the feeder, pick up some seed and take it back to the tree to feed the young one. Very sweet, but I couldn't get a clear shot. Did you know cardinal pairs won't eat at the same time? They take turns. I've noticed the male eats first. Hmmm...very Southern tradition. ;)

Today an Eastern towhee pecked at the seed that had fallen on the ground below the feeder. I think she nested in the azaleas because I see her all the time under the bushes.

A couple of sparrows have visited, but I guess the feeder hasn't been out long enough to attract a very large crowd.

There has been one persistent patron, though. He LOVES the black sunflower seeds. It's just that he stands guard over the feeder and won't let anyone else near. There's no point in trying to deter him, and that's why I want to put several feeders in the tree. I could do what Daddy has done and put up a platform for him. If I put lots of pecans and sunflower seeds on the platform, maybe he'd leave the feeders alone. Nah, probably not.
